LOOKING AFTER WINTER SKIN

Snow is falling… All around us… Oh wait, no it’s not Christmas again yet.

With the weather being so severe all over the UK and other parts of the world, it is so important to look after your skin. You may not think it’s necessary because you’re layering up in clothes, but winter weather steals moisture away from your skin.

If you don’t look after your skin, it will become dry and may even lead to cracking and bleeding! Not what you want for those winter selfies in the snow.

So, here are some of tips on how to care for your skin this winter:

  • Wash in lukewarm water – Using water that’s too hot can also rob the moisture from your skin and strip essentials oils away from your face. Although having a nice hot bubble bath in this weather feels amazing, it’s not always the best option for your skin’s health.
  • Drink plenty – Similar to the hot water you wash your face with, drinking hot drinks may not be the best option, although they feel lovely and comforting. Maybe try some warm water with lemon or just cold water. Your body and skin should be hydrated from the inside out!
  • Moisturise – Just like you need to hydrate the inside of your body, you also need to hydrate the outside too! Especially in winter, your skin can become excessively dry with the cold air and fake indoor heat. It is essential that you apply a good moisturiser after every time you wash your skin. Some people also think that moisturisers are just for your face, those people are wrong. Try applying the Electric Ink Skincare Daily Moisturiser all over your body to keep it protected and nourished. Yes, this may be designed for tattooed skin, but it works on other skin too.
  • Exfoliate – Your skin won’t absorb any moisture if there are dead skin cells blocking the way. This is why exfoliating regularly to remove the dead skin is essential. Remember, this doesn’t just apply to the skin on your face, you should apply a full body exfoliator to help your skin breathe in these cold months.
  • Plenty of sleep – This tip is probably much easier to do in winter, with the cold evenings and even colder dark mornings. You don’t want lack of sleep to result in puffy eyes, dark circles and ashy complexions!
  • Eat well – Foods high in protein and good fats are the best in winter. Lots of avocado, nuts, vegetables and lentils are the best things to get on your shopping list. Don’t let your skin suffer because you don’t fancy cooking! Fast food is not what your skin wants, although your eyes may be craving it right now. Stick to the good stuff and your body and skin will thank you.
